Eve Systems

Eve Systems builds beautiful smart home devices that set superior standards of comfort, safety, and control. Engineered in-house to combine seamless software with elegant hardware, Eve focuses on flawless, intuitive, and most importantly, secure devices. Because privacy is paramount, and what happens at home, must stay at home.
As an early adopter of Matter and member of the Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA), Eve is among the first to take the smart home to an entirely new level of interoperability and simplicity.
Eve is honored to be part of the Samsung SmartThings Matter Partner Early Access Program.
Eve is privately held with headquarters in Munich, Germany.
What role does Matter play for your company in 2023 and beyond?
Up to this point, Eve has been exclusively leveraging Apple HomeKit technology due to our unwavering commitment to a local system architecture without cloud dependency. Matter now lets us branch out and work with new platforms and technology partners like Samsung SmartThings, introducing more consumers to our world-class devices without compromising our core privacy-first principles – as the standard is an entirely local protocol.
From 2023, Eve devices with Thread technology will feature the great Matter experience out of the box, finally making the easy, seamless and private smart home a reality for customers.
How do you see Matter impacting the connected home?
At Eve, we have always been convinced that smart home will only become a mass market if it delivers a simple, secure & reliable customer experience, leaving complexity, privacy concerns and security risks behind. This is possible only through convergence, an escape from walled gardens, and universal standards that Samsung SmartThings and its fellow platform providers embrace.
We believe that Matter is a real “game changer “, paving the way for a large scale household penetration of smart home devices.
Tell us about the first Matter device(s) launching on the SmartThings platform:
Eve has been planning ahead and designed the devices to be ready for Matter early on with our transition to Thread. With the world’s largest portfolio of Thread-enabled devices, Eve can offer the benefits of Matter with a simple, free software update to a huge installed base. Hundreds of thousands of devices are already in our customers hands that can directly be upgraded to Matter after the launch.
Devices like the Eve Energy smart plug, sensors like Eve Motion and Eve Door & Window, or the popular Eve MotionBlinds motor for roller blinds will be among the first to receive free over-the-air firmware updates. Matter out-of-the-box editions for those devices will follow closely, as well as for further Thread-enabled Eve devices.
What was the experience of pioneering a brand new protocol together with SmartThings?
Working closely with the different SmartThings teams is a great experience marked by a high level of trust and mutual support. Even though our companies are very different in terms of size, we have the feeling that we are highly valued as a partner and work at eye level. Sharing the same values and passion about delivering a unique experience for our customers is the foundation for this great partnership.
Any other comments or advice for the SmartThings developer community?
Matter is a powerful example of what can be achieved together, when smart home enthusiasts from all over the world join forces. We're very excited for all the great ideas that are to come next, and all the new collaboration opportunities that will open up.
Aqara

Aqara is a leading smart home provider founded in 2009, with offices in New York, Shenzhen, and Korea. We provide comprehensive smart home products and solutions that are beautifully designed, long-lasting, and easy to use. Products range from a variety of smart sensors to switches, security cameras, curtain and roller shade controllers, and smart door locks. We currently serve more than 5 million customers worldwide, with over 160 distribution partners from more than 30 countries, covering 6 Continents. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we hope to bring more accessible, smart home technology to households around the world.
What role does Matter play for your company in 2023 and beyond?
As a member of CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance), Aqara shares the same vision of making IoT products more secure, reliable, and interoperable across multiple platforms so that users can have a better smart home experience. We’re one of the early participants of the Matter project, and we have been working with key stakeholders such as Samsung SmartThings for interoperability tests and Matter user experience optimization. With Matter’s promised interoperability across devices, brands and systems, it will reduce the workload needed to support different smart home systems, and we can be more focused on designing and developing high quality products and further expanding our smart home product lines.
How do you see Matter impacting the connected home, or the IoT world, or something similar based on type of company?
Without any doubt, Matter is the next big thing within the IoT industry, and we can see the momentum built up in the past few years. The previously fragmented smart home ecosystem will soon welcome a new era of interoperability across devices, brands and systems, and the global user community will greatly benefit from it. We anticipate Matter will not only significantly improve the connected home experiences, but also profoundly boost smart home adoption worldwide.
Tell us about the first Matter device(s) launching on the SmartThings platform:
Our ultimate goal is to provide a comprehensive portfolio of Matter-compatible devices to our global users. Our existing Aqara Zigbee-based devices will be made Matter-compatible via the OTA software update of our Aqara hubs, such as the Hub M2 and M1S, shortly after Matter’s launch. This approach will allow our users to keep their existing Zigbee devices while accessing the benefits of Matter.
Simultaneously, Aqara will also be introducing a new lineup of Thread-based devices with native Matter support. We will feature the Motion Sensor and the Door and Window Sensor as one of Aqara’s first Thread devices, with an array of other Thread-based Aqara products to follow. Because of our commitment in Matter and our close collaboration with SmartThings, Aqara’s Matter devices will be able to connect and be managed by SmartThings Matter controllers.
What was the experience of pioneering a brand new protocol together with SmartThings?
We’re pleased for the amazing opportunity to work with SmartThings on its Partner Early Access Program, and to join hands testing Matter interoperability while optimizing Matter experiences for global users. This collaboration will bring seamless and simplified connected home experiences.
SmartThings is one of the proven leaders of the smart home segment and working with SmartThings has helped us further optimize our implementation of the Matter standard. Together we hope to accelerate the mass adoption of the smart home.
Any other comments or advice for the SmartThings developer community?
With Matter’s promised interoperability, developers need only one set of firmware to connect smart home devices to different systems including SmartThings and Aqara. Matter simplifies development and integration work for the developer community, so that the time-to-market will be expedited, and the tech community can be more focused on smart home innovation.
