Test Session Access and Sharing

A test session is linked to two parties:

  • The account that created it. This account is the session owner.
  • The Organization selected when the session was created. This is the session's primary Organization.

Who can access a session depends on these two things and on any other Organizations the session is shared with. You don't assign roles to people. What you can do depends only on your relation to the session.

Who Can Access a Test Session

You are…What you can do
The owner (the account that created the session)Everything: view the session and its reports, start and cancel the session, respond to manual test steps, add notes, archive and delete the session, and request an AI analysis.
A member of the primary OrganizationSee the session in your session and device lists, open its details, and download the progress and certification reports.
A member of an Organization the session is shared withOpen the session details and download its reports, using a direct link to the session. Shared sessions don't appear in your lists, so the owner must send you the link.
Any other SmartThings userNothing. The session isn't listed and can't be opened.

Your Organization membership is checked each time you open a session. If you join or leave an Organization, your access changes immediately.

What You Can See and Change

Everyone with access sees the same session data:

  • Device and Capability information
  • The test plan
  • Test results and statistics
  • Execution details
  • The owner's notes
  • The certification report

The certification package also contains the files that the owner attached to the session, such as onboarding screenshots or QR code photos. See Attachments.

Only the owner can change a session. This includes:

  • Starting and canceling the test session
  • Responding to manual test steps while the session is running
  • Editing notes after the session has finished
  • Archiving the session
  • Permanently deleting an archived session

Create a Test Session for an Organization

To choose the Organization for a test session, open the account menu in the top-right corner of the Developer Center and select it under Using Console As. Only Organizations that you are a member of are listed. Then go to the Test Suite and start your test. The Test Suite page shows which Organization is active: "You are working in the context of the organization…".

You can't change the primary Organization later

The session is linked to the Organization that is selected when you start the test. This is its primary Organization. It can't be changed later, and it decides which Organization's members can see the session. Check the selected Organization before you start a testing process.

Share a Test Session with Another Organization

Members of another Organization get read access to a session and its reports when the session is shared with that Organization. Sharing happens automatically when you link the session to a product that belongs to a different Organization than the session's primary Organization.

The share is removed automatically when you unlink the session from the last product that belongs to that Organization. The primary Organization always keeps access.

Attachments

You upload attachments as one of the steps of onboarding in a Full Integration Test. On the onboarding screen, after you select the onboarding method, the Test Suite shows the upload fields for your device connection type:

  • Cloud Connected (Schema) devices: the Authorization Screen screenshot (required), and the Android and iOS App-to-App Account Linking videos (if your integration supports App-to-App Account Linking). See Cloud Connected (Schema) Devices.
  • Direct Connected (MQTT) devices: the photo of the device's QR code (required). See Direct Connected Devices (MQTT).
Attachments are shared with more people after they are connected

Once an attachment is connected to a test session, it becomes part of the session's certification package. Anyone who can download the certification package receives the file. This includes members of the primary Organization and of any Organization the session is shared with. Upload only files you are comfortable sharing with these users.
