Before You Begin Testing

Complete the steps on this page before you start a test in the SmartThings Test Suite. Good preparation helps your Full Integration Test run without interruptions.

General Prerequisites

Before using the Test Suite, make sure that you have:

  1. A Samsung account. You use it to sign in to the Test Suite.
  2. The latest version of the SmartThings app installed on your Android or iOS device.
  3. A device that uses a supported connection type: Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, LAN, Direct Connected (MQTT), or Cloud Connected (SmartThings Schema). See Supported Connection Types to check which ones qualify for self-test certification.
  4. Access to your Organization (if applicable). If the device belongs to a Developer Center Organization, make sure that your Samsung account is a member of that Organization. See Using the SmartThings Console - Organizations to learn how Organizations work and how to invite others.
  5. Checked that your device is supported. Compare your device with the supported device types and Capabilities.
Remove your device from SmartThings before a Full Integration Test

For a Full Integration Test (required for self-test certification), your device must not be onboarded to SmartThings. Onboarding is part of the test, and the Test Suite asks you to onboard the device during the test. If the device is already connected, remove it from SmartThings first.

Z-Wave devices and the SmartThings Hub

If you connect your Z-Wave device through a SmartThings Hub, note that the SmartThings Hub does not support the following Z-Wave Plus V2 features:

  • Z-Wave Long Range star network
  • SmartStart onboarding
  • Over-the-Air (OTA) updates

Prepare for Your Connection Type

Each connection type has its own preparation steps. Select your connection type below.

Before you start a Full Integration Test:

  • Remove the device from SmartThings: If the device you want to test is already connected, remove it from SmartThings.
  • Get the device ready to pair: Make sure that the device can be added to SmartThings. For example, reset it or put it in pairing mode.
  • Know your onboarding method: During the test, you will be asked which method you used to onboard the device.

No additional documentation is required.

Next Step

When you are ready, start a test and onboard your device.
